Средний #5 - Cooking in Swedish

Markus: Här står det att man ska ha 4 liter vatten i.
It says here that you're supposed to add 4 liters of water.
Anders: Det kan inte stämma. Det måste vara ett tryckfel. Deciliter ska det nog vara.
That can't be right. It has to be a typo. I guess it should be deciliter.
Markus: Ja det låter logiskt, annars skulle ju kåldolmarna bada i vatten.
Yes, that sounds logical. Otherwise the cabbage rolls would bathe in water.
Anders: Var har du decilitermåttet någonstans?
Where is the deciliter cup?
Markus: Där, borta vid skärbrädan.
Over there by the cutting board.
Anders: Man ska blanda allt med köttfärsen och rulla ihop smeten i bladen. Sedan steka.
You are suppose to mix everything with the ground beef and roll the paste into the leaves. Then fry them.
Markus: Det är ju det jag gör.
That's what I'm doing.
Anders: Jo, jag läser bara högt.
Yeah, I'm just reading out loud.
Markus: Jaha.
Oh ok.
Anders: När dolmarna är färdiga, lägg upp dem på tallrikar. Servera med kokt potatis.
When the rolls are done, put them on plates. Serve with cooked potatoes.
Markus: Har du satt på potatis?
Did you put on the potatoes?
Anders: Nej.
No.
Markus: Har du ens skalat dem?
Did you even peel them?
Anders: Jag glömde visst bort dem.
I guess I forgot.

Measurments

It’s more common to use a measurement for volume instead of weight. This means that you’ll hardly see anything measured in grams in modern recipes but rather in deciliter. One deciliter correpsonds to 100 milliliter and in Sweden we even measure flour and sugar this way. More commonly you’ll thus see, for instance, 10 deciliter flour (not 1 Liter) instead of 1 kilogram. Beside the deciliter, we use tablespoons, teaspoons and «spice measurement». You’ll see gram too, but not as often and especially for butter, if it’s not measured in tablespoons.
